Banana Cake with Nutella Frosting

Banana Cake with Nutella Frosting

There are some food pairings that are just meant to be together.  Peanut butter and jelly, bacon and eggs, spaghetti and meatballs, and bananas and Nutella.

On the other hand Nutella is good with quite a few things but I think it’s best with bananas.  One of my favorite ways to enjoy this tasty combination is in my Nutella and Banana Smoothie.  It is thick and creamy and the perfect ratio of banana and Nutella.  I know many of you that have tried it and loved it.

I was delighted when I was assigned The Ginger Snap Girl for this month’s Secret Recipe Club.   I quickly found this recipe and knew it would be excellent to feature.  The Ginger Snap Girl is written by Gloria who shares amazing recipes such as Blueberry Donut Muffins and Pumpkin Ice Cream, perfect for fall just to name a few.
The banana cake is moist and is great to make with ripe bananas you have on hand.  Topping this cake off with a creamy Nutella frosting makes this one amazing cake.
This is definitely one cake you will want to give a try!

  1. Mmm, can’t wait to have some cooler temps to bake again, I love banana cake! And nutella frosting would just push it over the top for sure.

  2. Mmmmmmm – I love anything with banana, and anything with nutella. So to me, this is a total win-win! I just bought a brand new container of nutella too, and it’s begging to be used. I think I found a great purpose for it!

  3. So glad you picked this recipe! I completely agree that bananas and Nutella are a match made in heaven. My favorite way to enjoy them, other than this cake, is banana and nutella crepes! Yum. You are making me want to make this cake again! 🙂

  4. We all love the cake but the frosting Is way to sweet and you get so much of it enough for 2 cakes it almost takes away the flavor of the cake. I think you lose the flavor of the nutella as well

  5. I made this today, with one small change, I added chocolate chips to the batter. It’s going to work tomorrow, so we’ll see what they have to say! Thanks!

  6. When I asked my niece what flavor cake she wanted for her 5th birthday, she responded, “Ummmm, banana! With chocolate frosting!” I have no idea what gave her this idea as she has never had such a thing. I told her that I didn’t know how all her little friends at her party would respond to a banana cake, but that I would make one for her to have for her birthday cake. Pinterest is my go to for… everything, so this is the recipe I found. Can’t wait to make it tomorrow. I love the idea of Nutella frosting, but since she has requested plain chocolate frosting, that is what I will be going with. 🙂 Thanks for a great, easy to follow recipe!

  7. I just made this and it is wonderful, so much lighter then banana bread. I made one little change tho, since i was out of vanilla I used 1/2 tsp of almond extract and I left off the frosting…amazing!

  8. I also made this as a birthday cake, and after baking, couldn’t help but think I should have used two 8-inch round cake pans instead. Has anyone tried this? I’m sure it would come out the same and the icing makes enough to ice the layer in between the two cakes.
