Spicy Hummus & Hummus Chicken Salad (Secret Recipe Club)

For this month’s Secret Recipe Club I had the pleasure of being assigned to Amy’s Cooking Adventures.    Like me, Amy is a stay at home mom of two adorable children.   She shares a  lovely variety of delicious recipes.

I had several recipes written down that I am eager to try.  I decided to make two recipes from her collection.  I first choose Spicy Hummus.  I love hummus so when I saw a recipe for Spicy Hummus it was a no brainer for me that I wanted to make it.  I was intrigued with a spicy version and the addition of hot sauce.  I love hot sauce and I use it often in such recipes as Buffalo Chicken Wing Soup, Buffalo Chicken Ranch Pizza and Buffalo Chicken Quesadilla.

This hummus was not only simple but delicious.  The only thing I switched was I used extra virgin olive oil in place of the water as in the original recipe.  I also added a little more hot sauce since I like a kick and an opportunity to clear my sinuses.

Since I had this fabulous hummus whipped up, and I saw in Amy’s recipe box a recipe for Hummus Chicken Salad I thought that this  hummus would be excellent in this dish as a version of Buffalo Hummus Chicken Salad.  This was addicting.  Super simple and makes for a delicious snack or an appetizer for entertaining.

Spicy Hummus

Recipe slightly adapted by:  Amy’s Cooking Adventures

1 (15 oz) can garbanzo beans (chickpeas), drained and rinsed

2-4 tbsp extra virgin olive oil

1/8 tsp garlic powder

¼ tsp sea salt

1 ½ tsp Frank’s Red Hot Wing Sauce

¾ tsp paprika

½ tsp dried basil

Pour garbanzo beans into a food processor.  Pulse until very smooth, adding extra virgin olive oil to thin the mixture as necessary.

Add in the garlic powder, sea salt, hot sauce, paprika, and basil.  Pulse until well blended.

Serve with vegetables, or corn chips.

What a great combination and healthy. I would have never thought to combine the two together. I love this idea. I’m going to make this and not tell my hubby what’s in it. I wonder what he’ll think. He’s not adventurous at all!

    Thanks for sharing.
