Do you have a medicine cabinet that has stuff in there you haven’t used in years? It just sits on the shelves like it has taken up permanent residency in your medicine cabinet and it is almost like you don’t even see it sitting there anymore when you reach in there to grab something.
For me, none of our bathrooms have a “medicine cabinet”. All of our bathrooms have large mirrors in place of where you would find a medicine cabinet, so I have to store things differently when it comes to typical things you would find in a medicine cabinet.
Having small children, I don’t like keeping medicine of any sorts in any of the bathrooms. I use the top shelves of our linen closet to duplicate as a medicine cabinet. To keep it organized and pretty I use baskets to house everything. One basket pretty much holds all the pain and cold medicines. Another basket keeps peroxide, rubbing alcohol, ointment, bandages for boo boos. My kids are rubbing off on me. Eden has been on a kick every night saying she has a boo boo. It’s the tiniest little scratch on her hand, but she likes a little band aid for her “boo boo”. As you can imagine, it’s big deal getting a band aid when you are two. My third baskets keeps stores antacids, things like that for tummy aches. Everything is nice and tidy and easy to grab when needed. No need scrambling through bottles on a shelve looking for something. I like to keep things to a minimum. I don’t want to be running a pharmacy inside my linen closet or even if I had a medicine cabinet.
If you are looking to get your medicine cabinet organized, or if you don’t have a medicine cabinet and are utilizing another closet to store these items here are a few tips to keep it clean.
~ Start with an empty medicine cabinet. Toss items that you don’t use, are expired.
~ If you do utilize a medicine cabinet, organize items by height and category. Place items you use frequently to the front.
~ Check with your local poison control center on how to safely dispose of unused medications.
~ Use a small jar or glass to store tweezers, nail clipper and scissors.
