How many of you keep inventory of what you have in your pantry and freezer?

I got an upright freezer this past Mother’s Day and I have to say it’s one of the best gifts I’ve ever gotten! Silly, right? After years of battling a chest freezer and digging through it anytime I needed something getting a upright freezer was the best investment, and really they aren’t much more than a chest freezer. Our chest freezer was in our basement and while it served a purpose and I’m so thankful for it, nothing beats and upright freezer. Anytime I open it, it’s like I’m in the freezer section at the grocery store. I can see everything right in front of me and can easily access it without digging and pulling everything out. And when I get things on sale or things I like (like 70 calorie ice cream bars from Aldi which I’m obsessed with!) I can stock up and not feel like I don’t have room.

Whether you have a chest freezer, and upright freezer, or just use your refrigerator freezer keeping inventory of what you have helps a ton! No guessing or questioning if you have it. You just have to simply look at the list and know what you have on hand. I love to have freezer meals on hand! They are such a time save to just thaw and then toss in the slow cooker, Instant Pot or to even bake! Sometimes I don’t even need to worry about thawing. I love having a stash of freezer meals on hand! Many of them are my 5 Dinner and 1 Hour meals that I love to make extra and freeze!

Initially setting up a inventory list takes a little time, but it’s saves a ton of time in the long term. No guessing or wondering or buying something that I already have.

At first I just started with a freezer inventory sheet, but having a pantry inventory sheet is super helpful too, especially if you don’t have a lot of pantry space like myself. My dream is to have one of those walk in pantries. That is one thing we are lacking. I have food in several different areas so for me keeping a list of what we have on hand is essential.

Color code items

For the freezer inventory I go the extra set and color code it. I use pink for pork, green for chicken, black for beef, light blue for desserts of sweets. I also have one sheet for meats and stuff, and another sheet for frozen veggies. You don’t have to color code it but for me it makes it a little easier to look down the list. If I’m looking for pork, I just look for the pink. Plus it’s a good excuse to use my favorite Precise V5 pens!

You could laminate these which I have thought about and hand them on your freezer or door, put them on a clipboard, whatever works for you. I have a hanging basket that I currently use, but they may change. I also use cardstock to make it a little more durable, and I couldn’t resist punching a hole in the paper and making a bow just for a little added touch of cuteness.

So if one of your goals this summer, or this year is to get your freezer and pantry organized, download these free freezer and pantry inventory printables to use! And if you do, I’d love to see! Share them on social media and make sure you tag me!

  1. Hi. I just got an InstaPot and really love it. I have a question about your recipe for Lasagna pasta. Can liquid eggs be used instead of fresh eggs right out of the shell eggs? I prefer to use them if possible.
