An easy recipe for BBQ Vidalia Onion Hot Dogs – perfect for any summertime barbecue!

BBQ Vidalia Onion Hot Dogs

You know it’s summer when Vidalia onions are available at the grocery stores. There is nothing like these sweet Vidalia onions hand picked (yes, they are hand picked) from the ground in southern Georgia.

I had the chance to visit the onion fields in Vidalia last year. I was in sweet Vidalia heaven. The past few years I have shared some of my favorite Vidalia onion recipes like my Campfire Burgers topped with an amazing Campfire Sauce that is out of this world. These burgers always get rave reviews so you definitely want to check them out.

This summer I’ll be sharing more delicious Vidalia onions recipes. I am kicking off the season with this BBQ Vidalia Onion Sauce. If you have ever had a New York style hot dog with onion sauce it’s just like that but even better.

FUN FACT – Vidalia onions are only grown in 20 Georgia counties. Only these onions can be called Vidalia onions. You can look for the number 4159 on the sticker that’s on each onion to make sure it’s a true Vidalia.

  1. This is definitely the best way to kick off summer with Vidalia onions! I usually just go for caramelized onions on my hot dogs, but now I need to try your BBQ recipe.

  2. For me, it’s really not a hot dog unless there are onions on top! Raw, caramelized, grilled, whatever. Just give me those onions! Also, when I was a kid, I went through a phase where I was obsessed with bbq sauce, and put it on everything, especially hot dogs. So this recipe is really speaking to both the kid and adult versions of me 😉
