Ultimate Philly Cheesesteak
Dive into the Ultimate Philly Cheesesteak without even leaving the kitchen! With just few simple ingredients you can whip up this delicious meal the whole family will love any night of the week!
Looking for some easy, weeknight meals the entire family will love? Then you’ll want to add the Ultimate Philly Cheesesteak to your dinner menu. My family loves these!
So what makes these the ultimate? Let’s be honest, it’s
Cheez Whiz. Yes, Cheez Whiz. The “cheese” you find in the jar. Trust me, if you want a good authentic philly cheesesteak, then add the Cheez Whiz.
Ever since I’ve tried it this way, adding provolone just isn’t the same. There is something about the Cheez Whiz that makes this sandwich magical, like I stepped on to the streets of Philadelphia to get a philly cheesesteak.
I’ll be honest, you can use the brand name Cheez Whiz, or if you shop regularly at Aldi you can use the store brand too. That’s what I do. Whatever you prefer, but no matter what add one of them!
What you need
- A few sliced onions, preferably sweet like Vidalia
- A little olive oil and/or butter – for onions
- Shaved beef steak – you can find this in the meat section. I get it at Aldi and Walmart
- Hoagie rolls – I use the deli-style hoagie rolls from Aldi
- Butter – just a few tablespoons to melt
- Garlic powder – just a pinch
- Cheez Whiz – or store brand

PrintUltimate Philly Cheesesteak
- Yield: 0 servings
Ingredients
- 1 large sweet onion (thinly sliced)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 2 tablespoons butter (melted)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 packages shaved beef steak (14 oz each)
- 1 pkg hoagie rolls (6 count)
- 1 jar Cheez Whiz (or store brand )
- salt to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Heat olive oil and 1 tablespoon butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add onions and saute, stirring occasionally reducing temperature slightly if needed to avoid burning until onions are soft and tender, about 15 minutes.
- Add a dash of balsamic vinegar and pinch of salt. Increase heat to medium high and cook for an additional minute or so until fragrant and balsamic is absorbed into onions.
- Remove onions from skillet.
- While onions are cooking, mix garlic powder with melted butter. Brush onto inside of hoagie rolls. Bake in oven for 5-7 minutes until toasted. Remove from oven and set aside.
- Add shaved steak to skillet, pulling steak apart (you don't want clumps). Cook over medium to medium high heat, stirring and turning occasionally until meat is cooked throughly.
- Heat up Cheez Whiz in microwave, removing top and following heating instructions on jar.
- To assemble, place a generous amount of shaved steak on toasted hoagie roll, top with melted cheese, onions and a pinch of salt.
Thanks for the recipe and video. I’m an ALDI shopper so this makes it easy to know exactly what I need, and not have to find an ALDI equivalent. I just bought a package of beef shaved steak to change things up since I’ve done chicken a thousand different ways, and was looking up ideas on what to do with it. I was also thinking this type of shaved beef might be good for steak fajitas or even beef pepper steak. I brought this home yesterday and hubby is excited about doing Philly sandwiches though lol.
If you see the Amoroso club rolls at your aldi’s, try it with those!!
Cheese steak done right!
