DIY Vintage-Inspired Campfire Marshmallows Tin – Free Label!

If you love the vintage Campfire Marshmallow tins, wait until you see this DIY version I made!

I simply took a metal container I found at the thrift store that looked like a good fit to DIY into a Campfire Marshmallows container. I find these at Amvets all the time for around fifty cents. I spray painted the containers with an off white spray paint. For this I used Magnolia Home chalk spray paint in the color Shiplap. Another option I often use is Rustoleum in the color Heirloom White.

For these I used the 2-inch wide and the 3-inch wide labels. I attached them to the containers with Mod Podge.

Now here’s the fun part – to make them look rusty and old I used my favorite “rust” blend of Mod Podge and cinnamon and applied it to the container with a sponge brush. I lightly dabbed my sponge brush in Mod Podge then cinnamon and then lightly dabbed it around on the container.

For an even more rusty look I suggest working in sections applying Mod Podge to the container, sprinkling cinnamon on top of the coat of Mod Podge then dabbing Mod Podge on top of the cinnamon. Dabbing Mod Podge on top of the coat of cinnamon seals the cinnamon in but as it dries it creates that rusty look.

If you prefer a less rusty look like shown here I suggest dabbing it onto the containers with the sponge brush. You can add as much or as little as you’d like – that’s the fun part!

• Metal containers for a vintage-style Campfire Marshmallows container or anything you want to use like a coffee can, recycled cans, gift boxes, etc..
• Off-white spray paint to spray metal containers.
• Label (see below)
• Matte Mod Podge
• Ground Cinnamon
