Print on Fabric

I printed my tag on fabric or you can print them on paper.

To print on fabric you just some lightweight fabric. I use muslin that I get at Hobby Lobby. I cut the fabric a little smaller than a sheet of copy paper, spray the back with some spray adhesive (I like this one you can get HERE) and attach it to a piece of copy paper.

I print as I normally would using an inkjet printer. The printer I use is affordable from Walmart. You can find it HERE.

How To Add Hole in the Bottom to Add Fairy Lights

I first made a hole in the bottom of one of the bowls. I did this by using my heat gun on the bottom of the bowl and holding it there for a few seconds and gently tapping a hole on the bottom. I did this a few times until I was able to make a hole. If you don’t plan on adding lights you can skip this step.

Alternatively you could put the wire in between both of the bowls, leaving the battery pack on the outside so you don’t have to make a hole but then the lights are stuck in there.

Attach Bowls Together

Next I used E6000 and hot glue to attach the bowls together. I set it aside for a little bit so the E6000 could adhere and the hot glue could dry. You can find E6000 at the craft store.

Paint

I painted mine with FolkArt paint in the color Fern Leaf from Hobby Lobby. I added a good coat. I didn’t want it too thick or you wouldn’t be able to see the lights. If you don’t plan on adding lights you could add another coat of paint if you wanted to.

Add Cinnamon

I let the paint dry a little but while it was still wet I sprinkle it with cinnamon, especially in the lines of the design and brushed the excess off with a dry brush and lightly added paint on top to seal the cinnamon in. I first worked on the bottom bowl, then turned it over and did the top, but you can do it however you’d like. Once I got the desired look I set it aside to dry.

Add Antique Wax

Once it was dry I went around and distressed it more with antique wax. I love this one from Home Depot that you can get HERE.

Add Topper

For the topper I spray painted the little Dollar Tree storage cup as well as the plastic shower curtain hook with Rustoleum spray paint in the color Espresso. While the spray paint was still wet I would sprinkle it with cinnamon. I did this back and forth a few times until I got a rusty look. It’s very similar to how I made the Rustic Pinwheels which you can watch HERE.

Once that topper was dry I use hot glue and E6000 to attach it to the top.

Add Accents

For the accents I used dried Sweet Annie. I get mine on Etsy HERE and made a simple homespun bow with torn homespun that I get from Hobby Lobby. I also attached a few rusty bells with hot glue that I had along with one of the fabric tags.

I print my tags on muslin and distress the tag with antique wax.

Add Fairy Lights

And finally I added some battery operated fairy lights to the bottom for a subtle twinkle. It’s so pretty!

And that my friends is how I made this super cute oversized ornament. I bought these bowls actually last year before Dollar Tree upped their prices on all their stuff, so these may be $1.50 or $2.00 each now but still a fun craft to make!

If you make this too I’d love to see! Snap a picture and tag me!

I hope this inspired you to make one!
