Dining Out: Wendy’s BBQ Pulled Pork

I love a good pulled pork sandwich.
Mr. Mother Thyme is a southern boy and always loves eating good southern food. When we lived in southern Virginia we loved going out for good southern BBQ. We even got married in southern Virginia and at our wedding we had a local BBQ restaurant cater our reception serving brisket with all the fixin’s, corn bread and of course pulled pork.
Now that we live in New York I was excited when Wendy’s came out with their new pulled pork sandwiches. It was love at first bite and transported me back to some of the good old-fashion BBQ I had living in the south. Their BBQ Pulled Pork has a smoky aroma from the slow-smoked hickory smoked pork shoulder that is smoked for hours using real hickory chips. The pulled pork has great flavor that tastes like I’m at a BBQ joint down south. The pulled pork is shredded and topped with either sweet, smoky or spicy custom-crafted BBQ sauce and served with crunchy coleslaw on a toasted brioche bun.
Are you craving a pulled pork sandwich yet? I know I am!
To create this authentic BBQ Pulled Pork, last year Wendy’s traveled across the country visiting local BBQ joints and festivals across the BBQ belt to experience first-hand the regional flavors and tastes to create their very own pulled pork. Wendy’s first tested their pulled pork using Boston Butt which I usually use when I make my own pulled pork but switched to pork shoulder to provide a leaner cut of meat with less fat. Something I’m definitely going to try next time I make my own pulled pork!
Wendy’s respects pitmasters and their craft so much that they went to great lengths to take their BBQ to the next level from the cut of meat to the way they applied the sauce. Unlike some BBQ that is drenched in BBQ sauce and you can’t even taste the tender pulled pork, Wendy’s learned from BBQ experts that the best way to apply BBQ sauce is to drizzle it on top of the meat right before it’s served – just like how I remember it being served at BBQ restaurants in the south.
And if you can’t get enough of a good pulled pork sandwich, Wendy’s is also has Pulled Pork Cheese Fries that feature natural-cut fries and topped with a cheddar cheese sauce, hickory-smoked pulled pork, diced red onions and topped with BBQ sauce. Seriously, these are some tasty fries!
While Wendy’s got a few tips, plenty of the great BBQ pit masters’ secrets remain uncovered. Consumers have a chance to unlock those mysteries for themselves, by visiting YouTube to play Wendy’s “Crack the Masters” interactive game (hyperlink: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aG3RG7Nc4W4).
Wendy’s Pulled Pork Sandwiches and Pulled Pork Cheese Fries are only available for a limited time at Wendy’s restaurants across the U.S. so hurry in and get ready to sink your teeth into one tasty southern-style pulled pork sandwich!
