There is so much goodness in this easy Black Forest Cake. Maybe you’ll love the the sweet cherry pie filling swirled into the chocolate cake or the fresh cherries garnished on top. My favorite is the sweet whipped cream with just a hint of almond extract. It’s so good you’ll want to eat it with a spoon!

HOW TO DRESS UP THIS EASY BLACK FOREST CAKE
I love to garnish this with fresh summer cherries, perfect for this time of year and some slivered almonds. Obviously this dessert is great year-round so if cherries aren’t in season here are a few ideas to dress up this easy Black Forest Cake.
- Garnish with slivered almonds
- Sprinkle with some chocolate shavings
- Drizzle with a little chocolate syrup
- Add all 3!
I don’t recommend adding cherry pie filling on top so it doesn’t ruin the pretty whipped cream.

Easy Black Forest Cake

- water, oil and eggs per package ingredients
- 1 can (21 oz) cherry pie filling
- 2 cups heavy whipping cream
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 3/4 teaspoon almond extract
- fresh cherries for garnish optional
- slivered almonds for garnish optional
- chocolate shavings for garnish optional

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Prepare cake mix per package instructions.
Pour batter into a greased 9x13 baking dish.
Dollop cherry pie filling by the spoonful on top of batter.
Using the back of a knife gently swirl pie filling into batter.
Bake cake for 21-28 minutes until cake is brown and a cake tester inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Check cooking time on cake mix for accurate bake time.
Cool cake completely before adding topping.
Meanwhile add heavy whipping cream, sugar and almond extract to a large bowl and whip on high using an electric or handheld mixer for 4-5 minutes until stiff peaks form.
Chill whipped cream in the refrigerator until ready to use.
Once cake has cooled completely spread whipped cream on top of cake.
Garnish with fresh cherries, slivered almonds, chocolate shavings and/or drizzle with chocolate syrup.
Keep cake chilled until serving.
I use Duncan Hines Devils Food cake mix.
