Create this darling DIY Uncle Sam Door Hanger with a few supplies you can get at Dollar Tree and Hobby Lobby!
How cute is this Uncle Sam Door Hanger?! I love the way he turned out! He looks like something you would find at a craft show and definitely pay more than the supplies it cost to make this.
So gather up the supplies and get ready to make yourself one of these cute Uncle Sam Door Hangers too!
- Long summer tag sign from Dollar Tree
- Sanding block
- 1 piece of wood from the 2 pack of 12″ x 2 1/2″ craft utility wood from Hobby Lobby
- 1 piece of red and white scrapbook paper from Hobby Lobby
- 1 piece of stars scrapbook paper from Hobby Lobby
- Matte Mod Podge Paint brush to apply Mod Podge
- Rotary Cutter to cut paper (or scissors) Scissors
- Faux Fur near felt squares at Hobby Lobby
- Nautical rope from Dollar Tree
- Raffia from Dollar Tree
- Rusty star from Amazon
- FolkArt Antique Wax – Hobby Lobby
- Paint brush to apply wax
Lightly sand front of tag.
Trace tag/top of hat on scrapbook paper and cut out. I like to use a rotary cutter for a crisp cut.
Apply a coat of Mod Podge on tag and attach the paper on top and smooth it out. Let it dry slightly then apply a coat of Mod Podge to the top. Set aside to dry completely.
Cut out pieces of scrapbook paper to fit the piece of utility wood. If using a smaller piece of scrapbook paper than the size of the wood like I did, you’ll need to cut out 2 pieces. Cut out the second piece to line up properly.
Apply a coat of Mod Podge to wood then attach the pieces, lining them pieces together. Let dry slightly then apply a coat of Mod Podge on top. Set aside to dry completely.
Apply hot glue on the bottom of tag and attach faux fur to create the beard.
Next place the wood on top of tag toward the bottom where the tag begins to narrow to create the hat and attach it with hot glue.
Attach wooden knob to with hot glue to create the nose.
Cut strips of nautical rope and hot glue on hat to give the hat some texture.
I added hot glue some raffia on the hat along with a little rusty star. I also created a cute little tag and attached it on too.
I distressed it using a dry brush and brushed it on FolkArt Wax in Antique Wax. I love the distressed look it gave this.
To hang I attached twine to the back of the sign with hot glue.
