Step 1
Lightly sand front of tag.
Step 2
Trace tag/top of hat on scrapbook paper and cut out. I like to use a rotary cutter for a crisp cut.
Step 3
Apply a coat of Mod Podge on tag and attach the paper on top and smooth it out. Let it dry slightly then apply a coat of Mod Podge to the top. Set aside to dry completely.
Step 4
Cut out pieces of scrapbook paper to fit the piece of utility wood. If using a smaller piece of scrapbook paper than the size of the wood like I did, you’ll need to cut out 2 pieces. Cut out the second piece to line up properly.
Step 5
Apply a coat of Mod Podge to wood then attach the pieces, lining them pieces together. Let dry slightly then apply a coat of Mod Podge on top. Set aside to dry completely.
Step 6
Apply hot glue on the bottom of tag and attach faux fur to create the beard.
Step 7
Next place the wood on top of tag toward the bottom where the tag begins to narrow to create the hat and attach it with hot glue.
Step 8
Attach wooden knob to with hot glue to create the nose.
Step 9
Cut strips of nautical rope and hot glue on hat to give the hat some texture.
Step 10
I added hot glue some raffia on the hat along with a little rusty star. I also created a cute little tag and attached it on too.
Step 11
I distressed it using a dry brush and brushed it on FolkArt Wax in Antique Wax. I love the distressed look it gave this.
Step 12
To hang I attached twine to the back of the sign with hot glue.
