DIY Bunny Silhouette Grapevine Wreath

DIY BUNNY SILHOUETTE GRAPEVINE WREATH

Wait until you see how cute this bunny silhouette grapevine wreath turned out!

What I love about this, is the bunny could be used on any wreath you have including a boxwood wreath. It’s an easy way to add a seasonal touch to a wreath.

Not only is this bunny cute on a wreath but you could tuck it anywhere!

I love finding items at Dollar Tree and giving them a cute makeover on a budget. That’s exactly what I did with this. I knew this bunny had potential as soon as I saw it!

You can watch the full tutorial on how I made it below.

It’s pretty simple! I started by removing everything off it so I had a “blank” surface to work with and gave it a quick sand. You could even flip it over to save a step!

Next I gave it a few coats of chalk paint so when I decoupaged the napkins on top it would be a white background.

Speaking of napkins, I found these darling napkins at Marshall’s. Marshall’s, TJMaxx and HomeGoods is a great place to find cute napkins perfect for seasonal crafts!

First I remove the layer(s) of napkins by peeling off the backing so I’m left with just the one tissue/napkin layer with the image I am going to use.

Everyone has their own method for decoupaging and I always love trying new techniques. The one technique I like to do is to add a coat of matte Mod Podge then letting it dry. I add the Mod Podge on top of my dried painted surface then I dry the Mod Podge.

Once the Mod Podge is dry I place my paper on top. This works for paper, cardstock or napkins.

What I like about this method is I can align image to exactly where I want and move it. Once I get it to where I want to go I place a piece of parchment paper on top then I use an iron to adhere it to my project.

Basically what this does is the iron heats up the dried Mod Podge enough for the paper to then stick to the surface for a smooth, wrinkle-free result.

You just want to make sure you have the parchment paper in between the iron and the paper you are attaching. The parchment paper acts as the barrier. Also you want to move it around, don’t sit in one place.

I slowly move my iron around on top of the parchment paper until the image is attached.

So what do I do with the excess napkin hanging off my project?

Well you could cut off the excess with scissors and smooth it with a sanding block or a sweet follower even suggested an emery board! I love the idea of using an emery board.

One technique that I’ve been using on projects like this is to burn the excess off. If you’ve never done this before I suggest doing it outside, or over a sink. You also want to take precautionary measures so you don’t burn yourself – so basically do at your own risk.

I’ve done this a bunch so I am comfortable doing this method and I love the crisp ,smooth result. I do keep water near me just in case. I also hold my project away from everything. So again, if you do this be careful and use precautionary measures or do outside.

Next I take a lighter and light one end of the napkin and let the magic happen. If you watch my video you will see on several projects it burns off only the napkin leaving a smooth result around the edges. It’s so easy and I love the end result. Just be careful – again do at your own risk!

If you don’t want to burn off the excess napkin you can simply cut around the edge and then use a sanding block to smooth out around the edges. Honestly that is what I used to do before I discovered the burning technique. Do what you feel comfortable doing.

Once the napkin is adhere to the bunny and the excess is trimmed off I aged and distressed it with antique wax. I like this brand you can get HERE. I simply go lightly around the edges, building the layers and a light coat on top until I get the desired look. I love the aged, distressed look it gives. Again you can see how I apply it in the full video tutorial.

Next you could add a coat of Mod Podge on top to seal it but I choose not to. You could even spray it with a spray sealer or spray Mod Podge to seal the top.

The accents I choose to use is a bow I made with a piece of torn drop cloth. I love the shabby chic look. I also took a piece or torn Kraft paper from a roll of Kraft paper from Dollar Tree and stamped the word HOP on it. I love these clickable stamps that you can get HERE.

I hot glued the bow and tag on the bunny and also added some dried sweet Annie. I love that little touch of the dried sweet Annie.

I didn’t know the addition of the bunny tail I also added would spark such chatter, but I’ve got some comments on that, basically I shouldn’t have a bow and tail. Friends, this is just a cute decoration, not a real bunny. Don’t come at me because I added a bow and a tail. Feel free to add just one or both. You do you. And for the record there are plenty of decorations and ribbon that have both a bow and a tail which you can see a few examples HERE. I’m not the only one that has ever added a bow and tail to a bunny silhouette. Again you do you.

Now that I had my cute bunny silhouette I then attached it to a simple grapevine wreath. I choose to just use hot glue to attach it on top of the grapevine wreath. You could also use super glue or even E6000 if you want a studier hold.

For me I like that it’s attached so I can enjoy the wreath but easily pull off the bunny after Easter and easy store just that piece away and reuse the grapevine wreath. It’s a great way to repurpose the grapevine wreath for your next project!

And that’s it! I really love how this turned out, don’t you? I love the simplicity but I also love how it looks on a grapevine wreath.

If you make this too I’d love to see!

Happy crafting!
