Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings
Chicken and Dumplings is a family favorite! Not only is this Chicken and Dumplings delicious it’s so easy too! It’s total comfort food!
This is my go-to Chicken and Dumplings recipe that I have made for years and I’m so happy that it’s become a family favorite and requested to be on the dinner menu often.
I simply add 3 chicken breasts to my slow cooker. Click HERE for the slow cooker I use. Then I add in a few cans of cream of chicken. Use whatever brand you like best or make homemade cream of chicken, then add in chicken broth and season with your heart. I like to add garlic powder, poultry seasoning, salt and pepper. Give it a good mix, cover and cook for 4-5 hours on low.
So easy, right?
Chicken cooks quick in the slow cooker, so definitely check it after 4 hours. If you overcook chicken in the slow cooker it can get mushy. Once it’s cook, remove the chicken from the slow cooker and place on a cutting board and chop or shred it up.
I like to stir in a little heavy cream into the sauce too. If you don’t have heavy cream, half and half will do, or you can even omit it if you don’t have it on hand.
Add the chicken back in and stir it up.
Finally it’s time to make the dumplings and Bisquick is the way to go. Mix the Bisquick with milk then add small dollops of the dumpling mix on top. If you like extra dumplings like I do, I usually do 3 cups Bisquick with 1 cup milk. If you are using a smaller slow cooker, just stick with the recipe below and only use 2 cups.
Cover the slow cooker, increase the temperature to high and continue to cook for 30-45 minutes, or until the dumplings are cooked.
Once it’s baked on top it’s time to dig in! It’s total comfort food the entire family will love!
